Nursery Plants

YOUNGFARMERSGUIDE

How do those little seeds grow in to such big plants?

"Wow! What an amazing time we had at the Donelson Christmas Parade!  The streets were filled with holiday cheer, and we were thrilled to launch our #InvictusGrows campaign.  We spread the joy of gardening by giving away over 1,500 seed packets to the wonderful Donelson Hermitage community!

At Invictus Nashville, we're passionate about learning and growth, and we believe that everyone can develop a green thumb! Gardening empowers you to grow your own food, which is a valuable skill that can help you become more self-reliant and resilient.

A big thank you to everyone who came out to the parade and joined us in this exciting initiative.  We can't wait to see all the beautiful plants you grow!  Don't forget to share your gardening journey with us on social media using #InvictusGrows.

Stay tuned for more updates and exciting events from Invictus Nashville!"

Wow! What Happens When We Plant a Seed? 🌱

clipart image of a plany growing out of a pot.jpg

Hey explorers! Have you ever wondered how a tiny seed turns

into a big plant?

Let's find out together!

It's like magic, but it's also science!

We can do an experiment and see it with our own eyes!

Materials

1. Seeds

2. Something to Plant In
Can we find something to hold our seed and soil? Maybe an old cup, a yogurt container, or even an empty egg carton!

3. Soil
Let's go outside and explore! Can we find some soil in the garden or in a flower pot?

4. Water
Plants need water to drink, just like us!

5. Sunshine
Plants love to soak up the sun to grow strong!  You also don't need to be outside to get the sun.

Plant a Seed, Watch It Grow

MAKE A HOME FOR YOUR SEED

Poke tiny holes in the bottom of our container(s).

Why do you think we need a hole?

FILL IT UP!

Let's scoop some soil into our container. Not too full, we need to leave some space for our seed!

PLANT OUR SEED

Now, gently push the seed into the soil. Let's cover it with a little more soil, like a cozy blanket.

GIVE IT A DRINK

Let's use a small cup or a spoon to give our seed some water. We don't want to flood it!

FIND A SUNNY SPOT

Where do you think our seed will get the most sunshine? Let's put it near a window!

OBSERVE AND WONDER

What do you think will happen? Let's look at our seed every day and see if we notice any changes!

OBSERVATION & REFLECTION

Check in on your seed daily.

What do you see?

What happened to the seed?

How long did it take to sprout?

What does the sprout look like?

How does the soil feel?

WE WANT TO SEEHow it's going
